2. How to create an interview agent
Learn how to set up your first AI interview agent in ValueFlow.
Overview
An interview agent allows you to conduct interviews automatically, just based on your pre-configured information. This is what your overview looks like with one created interview agent:

To give you a preview, this is what your interview frontend could look like for one of your interviewees:

Let's get started configuring your interview agent!
Creating Your First Interview Agent
Step 1: Understand the Two Components of an Interview
An AI interview requires two essential components to function effectively: an interview configuration and a frontend configuration.
Interview Configuration is where you define the core content and behavior of your interview. This is where you:
- Configure the AI's task and objectives
- Define the questions you want the AI to ask
- Provide background information and context
- Set conversation parameters and guidelines
Frontend Configuration is where you customize the visual presentation and branding. This is where you:
- Apply your company's branding and styling
- Customize the user interface for your interviewees
- Ensure the interview clearly represents your organization
- Create a professional, branded experience

It is possible to have multiple frontend configurations for the same interview configuration. This can be very helpful, for example, if your audience is international. The AI will be able to switch between languages easily, but for a great experience you probably want to create a German interface for your audience in Germany, a Spanish interface for your Spanish audience, and so on.
Step 2: Go to the template library
Click on the button + Create or go to the menu item Template library. You will find it under the link [yourSubDomain].my.valueflow.ai/interview-agent-templates/list.

In the template library you have the option to create an interview agent from scratch (see the right column of the screenshot) or from pre-defined templates. Over time the ValueFlow team will provide more and more interview templates for different use cases and professions.
For this tutorial we select the template 'Conduct qualitative market research interview'.

Step 3: Fill out the configuration
The right sidebar opens with the empty template. Now it is your turn to configure this template with the information that the AI agent should use in the interview.
The more precise and more detailed your input, the better the AI can conduct the interview.

Step 4: Take a look at the fields in the advanced mode
You will notice an option called 'Advanced mode'. If you enable the toggle button, then more fields will appear in the configuration. If you leave it disabled, the fields are hidden.
This mode gives you more options to provide information to the AI if you desire. On the other hand, if you prefer a quick and simple configuration you can focus on the mandatory fields only.
If you write content into advanced fields but deactivate the toggle button, the fields are still considered and simply hidden.

In the following image you can see an example of a filled out configuration.

Step 5: Inspect your created interview agent
After you have saved the configuration, you will find your interview agent listed in the overview.
If you click on it, you can select Dashboard to get to the dashboard of this specific interview agent.

Each dashboard of an interview agent consists of three tabs: Results, Interviews, and Configuration.
Go to the tab Configuration.

Under Specification you can find your interview configuration that you already created. You can choose to edit it, if you like.

You have now successfully configured the first part of your interview agent.
Your interview agent is not yet ready. Follow tutorial 3 "How to create a frontend" to configure the second and last component of your interview agent.
Next Steps
Once your interview configuration is created, you should:
- Create a frontend for this interview agent.
